Background
Around 1600, archers practised on the open ground of Okmeydanı above the Golden Horn. Ottoman archery included shooting at targets and flight shooting for distance. Record stones preserved the memory of exceptional shots, while a lodge connected the field to an endowed institution. The bows, target, modest markers and distant harbour distinguish this setting from a battlefield. This reconstruction represents ordinary practice; the people, skyline details and arrangement of equipment are illustrative, not a record of one documented gathering.
What you see
A short curved bow, quiver and distant target identify archery practice.
Upright field markers recall the record stones associated with Ottoman flight shooting.
An open ridge above a harbour and a distant domed city suggest the Ottoman capital.
